When Did Denim Stop Being Just Denim?

At Asymmetry Edits, fashion begins with a question: *What if the familiar could become extraordinary?* From sculptural apparel and handcrafted accessories to statement jewellery and refined footwear,
When Did Denim Stop Being Just Denim?
Close your eyes for a moment and picture denim.
What came to mind?
A pair of jeans?
A jacket you've owned for years?
Maybe a shirt folded neatly in your wardrobe.
Now imagine a handcrafted evening bag. A sculptural saree. Elegant heels. Statement jewellery. A silhouette that turns heads at a celebration.
Still denim.
That's the beauty of design—it changes what we believe is possible.
Every fabric carries a story.
Silk whispers luxury. Linen speaks of effortless summers. Velvet evokes celebration.
And denim?
For decades, it has been associated with everyday wear. Practical. Casual. Reliable.
But why should one of the world's most loved fabrics be limited to everyday basics?
That question became an obsession for us.
Instead of asking, "What can we make with denim?"
We started asking,
"What has no one dared to make with denim yet?"
The answers surprised even us.
Imagine walking into a room wearing a beautifully draped denim saree.
At first glance, people notice the silhouette.
Then they realise it's denim.
They look again.
That's the reaction we love.
Not because it's shocking.
Because it challenges expectations.
Design isn't about making something different for the sake of being different.
It's about looking at something familiar from an entirely new perspective.
Sometimes innovation isn't inventing a new material.
Sometimes it's simply giving an old one a new identity.
Fashion trends come and go.
Minimalism.
Maximalism.
Quiet luxury.
Coastal chic.
Every season introduces another label.
Yet personal style has never followed a calendar.
The pieces we remember aren't always the trendiest ones.
They're the ones that made us feel confident.
The ones people asked about years later.
The ones that somehow became part of our story.
That is the kind of fashion we hope to create.
Not clothing that asks for attention.
Clothing that earns it.
Pieces that feel equally at home in a celebration, a gallery, a dinner, or a quiet afternoon when you simply want to feel like yourself.
As we designed our first collections, one thought stayed with us:
Luxury isn't measured by how loudly a garment speaks.
It's measured by how thoughtfully it is made.
The balance of proportions.
The precision of every stitch.
The texture of the fabric.
The comfort you feel when wearing it.
The confidence it quietly gives you.
Those details rarely make headlines.
But they're the ones you'll remember every time you wear the piece.
Our Journal is where we'll share those stories.
The sketches that never made it.
The details that took dozens of iterations.
The craftsmanship hidden beneath the surface.
The inspiration behind every collection.
And occasionally, we'll ask you questions too.
Because fashion has always been a conversation—not a monologue.
So here's one to begin with:
If denim had no rules... what would you create?
Perhaps the next idea isn't sitting in a design studio.
Perhaps it's already waiting in someone's imagination.
Maybe yours.
Welcome to the Journal.
We're just getting started.
